It sucks.
And no one can make that feeling go away. Not your dog either. So deal with it!
You´ve got a decision to make, and really there´s only two choices.
1. You keep sulking and/or blaming your dog/others for your failure and while doing so you miss out on training opportunities that could actually help you and your dog to solve the problem.
2. You seek help. I know, not the easiest to admit you´ve failed. But, dog training is a team sport and the good news is, you can decide who´s on your team. So, go out there and ask different people as many questions as you can. Add tools into your tool box to solve the problem.
It sucks when your dog decides while trailing, that the “pee-post”, the butterfly, this particular blade of grass, the other dogs, the leaves blowing in the wind, or the cat under the car (that you didn´t know was there), is more interesting than finding the person that´s been out hiding for at least an hour in the freezing cold. And to be honest, it´s quite embarrassing as well.
BUT the moment you realise, you solved the problem and your dog starts to ignore the “pee-post”, the butterfly, this particular blade of grass, the other dogs, the leaves blowing in the wind, or the cat under the car (that you didn´t know was there) – YOU FEEL LIKE A QUEEN. Or a King.
It doesn´t matter if you are doing Mantrailing, IGP, Agility, Fly Ball, Treibball, Obedience, Dog Dancing, if you are an operational dog handler or if you are a pet dog owner training your puppy to be a good dog. It´s all dog training.
What choice will you make?
